Abstract


Importance of communication with patients is widely accepted in terms of reducing patient anxiety, increasing patient
satisfaction and patient compliance. However communication researches also increasingly considers on improving health
outcomes and ethical care. But communication with older patients is ever more challenging to dentists. Here, geriatric
syndrome and, emotional and psychological needs is seen as common default state of elderly dental patients and thus
communication-specific considerations are reviewed. And finally, for general dentists and undergraduate curriculum for
geriatric dentistry, communication with cognitively impaired older dental patients is especially difficult area and we have a
good reason to begin with a basic minimum.
